Veljo Runnel, “The Spell of Wild Sounds”
In Saturday evening during the Psühhodisko sound journey “The Spell of Wild Sounds” we will hear recordings by Veljo Runnel: sounds of Arctic bird colonies, spring-time frog choirs, sounds of fish, tadpoles and bubbles under water, moose nuptials between bog pines, and other exciting places and situations. After the hearing there will be a discussion about recording of nature sounds and a presentation of the required equipment.
Veljo Runnel is a nature sound recorder, a nature photographer and a biologist, but has also studied psychology in the University of Tartu. He started nature sound recording in 1999. Back then his main subjects were animal sounds and soundscapes, but also wider interpretation of hearing sense and the world of sounds. Veljo has held several workshops about biological diversity, nature photography and nature sounds recordings. He has published records of nature sounds in cooperation with Estonian Wildlife Foundation, Eesti Loodus magazine and also by himself. See more at

The central focus of the Psühhodisko conference - inner workings of the record stores. There are not many of these stores, and thus it is even more exciting to see how they all live, both here in Estonia and in neighbouring countries. Some focus on second-hand records, some on new ones, some on certain genres or audiences, some bring on table something completely different besides the records. Demand for records is going up, but at the same time it also creates obstacles. Come and hear about the inner workings and hidden diversity of record stores.
Discussion will be attended by Aku Helin (Redhill Records, FI), Ahto Külvet (Psühhoteek, EE), Artjoms Voronins (a Discogs guru from Latvia, LV), Hryhorii Ivantsiv (GRAM - by video bridge, UKR). Moderated by Sander Varusk (Terminal, EE).
Discussion will be held in English.
The record store discussion round is part of the Psühhodisko conference on August 26-27.

Rob Gordon is the owner of a semi-failing record store located on one of the back streets of Chicago. He sells music the old-fashioned way, on vinyl, with his two wacky clerks - the hysterically funny rock snob Barry and the more quietly opinionated underachiever Dick. But Rob´s business isn't the only thing in his life that's floundering - his needle skips the love groove when his longtime girlfriend Laura walks out on him. And this forces him to examine his past failed attempts at romance the only way he knows how!
